Synopsis Ovarian cancer accounts for about 3.6% of cancers in women worldwide. It ranks eighth as the cause of death in women with cancer and has the highest rate of mortality among all the gynecologic cancers in the western world. Despite treatments like cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and intravenous platinum-based chemotherapy, almost 80% of patients with advanced-stage disease experience a recurrence within two years.
