Ischemic optic neuropathy is one of the major causes of impaired vision or blindness. The incidence of non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy ranges between 2.3–10.3 per 100,000 population per year. RPh201 is a botanical extract of gum mastic and is used for the treatment of various neurological diseases. It induces effects like synaptogenesis, immune-modulation, and neuroprotective and neuronal differentiation in vitro and in vivo. The present study evaluates the efficacy and safety of RPh201 for the treatment of ischemic optic neuropathy.
