A new study published in the Journal of Cardiology has found that elevated serum uric acid levels are associated with an increased risk of aortic aneurysm (AA) and aortic dissection (AD), based on data from 468,223 UK Biobank participants. Over a median follow-up of 15.1 years, researchers recorded 4,504 AA/AD events and observed a progressive increase in risk across rising uric acid levels. Participants in the highest uric acid quartile had a significantly greater risk of developing AA/AD compared with those in the lowest quartile, even after adjusting for established cardiovascular risk factors.
