Episiotomy is a very painful procedure done during normal labor. If adequate time (atleast 15-20 mins) is there for episiotomy give 10cc of 0.5 % Bupivacaine along the line of Episiotomy, to all layers. This gives good pain less episiotomy and pain free period UPTO 12- 18 hours. If adequate time is not there, give a mixture of 5 cc of Lidocaine with adrenaline + 5cc of Bupivacaine along the line of episiotomy to all layers.
This gives rapid and long lasting anesthesia upto 12 hours. Diclofenac injections or suppositories (if an enema is given) + opioids add to the analgesia and help in pain-free comfortable anesthesia and pain-free Post partum period. Share your opinion.
