World Thalassemia Day is observed on the 8 th of May annually. Thalassemia and its variants are among the most common genetic disorders worldwide. The disease pathology itself and iron overload due to regular transfusion, needed in most cases, gradually affect organ systems, adding to the struggles of the patients. This year’s theme is “ BE AWARE. SHARE. CARE.: Strengthening Education to Bridge the Thalassemia Care Gap .” The theme emphasizes the need for accessible and quality thalassemia education for people living with the disorder and their healthcare providers.
