The US FDA has recently approved the marketing of a new hearing aid device that can amplify sound in adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. It is the first self-assisted device that enables users to fit, program and control the hearing aid without assistance. The approval was following the evaluation of clinical studies of 125 patients showing that outcomes were comparable to the professionally fitted devices. The device captures sound vibrations through microphones and processes, amplifies and transmits the signal through an earphone placed in the ear canal.

Individuals with permanent hearing loss will also be benefitted as the device will help them hear the speech and sounds. Patients can adjust the hearing aid through a mobile application.
