In a recent move, the Hyderabad High Court has supported the decision of Medical Council of India (MCI) to prevent under-17 candidates to study medicine. The problem started when an under-17 girl wanted to study medicine abroad and got a denial from the MCI. The girl's father appealed against the rule and the single judge directed the MCI to allow the girl. The MCI, in turn, appealed against the verdict in Hyderabad HC.
The HC bench dismissed the previous order by the single judge and gave the ruling in favor of the MCI. MCI is very strict in the regard that if a student wants to return India and practice after getting a degree in medicine, he or she has to take the permission from the MCI before going for the study.
