The first exclusive vaccine for leprosy has been prepared in India. In few weeks project will be piloted in five districts of Bihar and Gujarat. Leprosy is the one of the eradicating and the crippling disease, that affects 1.25 lakh people every year. The development of the new vaccine for leprosy is the need of the hour, and India has taken a leap in rendering the situation better for the leprosy patients and their relatives by developing the vaccine, which is soon going to a trial.
About 60% of the world leprosy patients live in India, where lack of detection in time leave the affected crippled for life. If the proposed programme shows satisfactory results, this piloted area can be extended in other high-prevalence districts across the country.
