Author:  Dr. Stuart Orton-Jones et al. A rubber dam is a thin sheet used to isolate teeth during dental procedures, ensuring a dry, clean, and safe working field. Steps: Select teeth to isolate – usually includes the tooth being treated and adjacent ones. Choose and test the clamp – ensures proper fit and stability on the anchor tooth. Punch holes – matching the position of teeth to be isolated on the rubber dam.

Place the clamp – usually on the most posterior tooth. Position the dam – stretch the rubber dam over the clamp and the teeth. Attach the frame – holds the dam taut and out of the way. Invert the dam – tuck the dam into the sulcus to prevent fluid leakage. Secure with floss – helps seal around the teeth and keeps the dam stable.
