The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated three adjudication cases against the Indian subsidiary of a Swiss multinational company over alleged violations involving infant nutrition products and promotional claims. According to FSSAI, two infant formula products were found to carry claims related to “5 HMOs” and “Whey Protein.” The regulator sought clarification from the company and subsequently determined that the products contravened provisions governing promotional claims for foods intended for infants.

FSSAI cited Regulation 4(2) of the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Regulations, 2020, which restricts promotional claims and material intended to enhance the saleability of infant foods.
