Diabetes is a common metabolic complication of pregnancy. Affected women can be categorized into women with pre-existing diabetes and those with gestational diabetes. Diabetes-related complications during pregnancy can put both mother and infant at increased risk for multiple adverse outcomes such as macrosomia, increased caesarian section rates, hypertensive disorders, and fetal hyperinsulinemia. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach to providing care before, during, and after pregnancy is essential in reducing these risks.
