Obtaining Blood and blood components is now even easier than before, thanks to the two new initiatives by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The purpose of these two initiatives is better utilization of the donated blood and blood components. These initiatives are part of the commitment of the Ministry to ensure safe blood and enhanced access to blood components, and have been initiated on the recommendation of National Blood Transfusion Council. The first step of this process is permitting transfer of blood from one blood bank to another.
This will increase the availability of blood in places of scarcity and help save more lives. The guidelines for proper handling and efficient transport of blood between two banks have been detailed.
