A strict action to sack around 477 government doctors has taken finally by the government of Maharashtra. According to the Family Health Minister, the decision is an outcome of the indiscipline behavior of these doctors of being absent from duty for nearly 15 years. Those doctors who were appointed by the government for its hospitals or clinics across the state, went missing after joining services and are usually referred to as “absconders”. Family Welfare Minister said that they found about 581 such ‘absconders’ and out of them, the services of 104 have already been terminated.
He further added that out of these 581 doctors, some of them have not reported for duty for 10-12 years and others for 12-15 years. Yet, they have been paid salaries during this period of absence.
