Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health hazard leading to several deaths. In 2020, about 10 million people had TB, out of which 1.5 million died; its incidence will increase in 2022-23 owing to COVID-19 infection. Additionally, a large number of cases of multidrug or rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) and drug-resistant TB (DR-TB), including extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) and pre-XDR-TB, emerge every year. Using the international Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE5) approach, the WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme (WHO/GTB) has issued evidence-based guidelines for treating TB.
