The Punjab and Haryana High Court has strongly criticised the Haryana State Government for acting in an “insensitive” and “arbitrary” manner by initiating disciplinary proceedings and withholding a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from a government doctor who failed to stand up during the hospital visit of a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The court directed the State to issue the NOC without delay and imposed a cost of ₹50,000 on the Government for its unjustified actions. The petitioner, a Casualty Medical Officer serving under the Haryana Government, had cleared the Postgraduate entrance examination with sufficient merit to secure admission.
