Recently, the Health Ministry has decided to hire retired doctors who have worked in premier medical institutes of the country on a contractual basis with the view of making six new AIIMS fully functional and to tackle the shortage of doctors and faculty in these hospitals. The six new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) namely, Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna and Bhubaneshwar are yet to become fully functional due to lack of doctors and faculty. Despite advertising twice for 1,300 vacant posts, the hospitals were able to fill only 200 posts.

Thus, the Health Ministry has now decided to hire retired doctors, who have worked in premier medical institutes of the country.
