Motor vehicle accidents and other emergencies place a heavy burden on India’s health system, particularly at district hospitals. A national assessment of emergency and injury care shows that nearly 16% of all patients presenting to district-hospital Emergency Departments are emergency or trauma cases, with road-traffic injuries among the most common and deadly. For physicians and healthcare teams, this translates into an urgent need for system improvements and public education.

One of the critical challenges identified is weak pre-hospital care.
