A diabetic woman on metformin, voglibose, glimepiride combo with dapagliflozin reported with urinary tract infection. Urine analysis showed glucose ++, blood ++, protein traces, WBC 15 to 20 hpf, RBCs 8 to 10 hpf. On the second day early morning urine sample collected for analysis and c/s. Blood Glucose was checked by glucometer and it was 156mg%at the time of taking Urine sample. Urine analysis was done from the second lab which showed glucose +++ in urine besides confirming urinary tract infection.
Review of antidiabetics revealed that dapagliflozin can cause renal glycosuria with normal blood glucose levels. Is it harmful? What could be its complications? Should dapagliflozin be stopped or continued? Kindly share.
