During the Prime  Ministership of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, when Mr.P.Chidambaram was Minister for Personnel in 1986, I have written to the ministry for creating data on the medical practitioners of India. Unfortunately, I got no reply except, I hope an acknowledgment. Now the government is interested in estimating the number of seats to be created for better medical care of masses of India.

These points are very important for estimating such data: 1) In India as per statistics doctor: patient ratio is 1:1456 against the standard prescribed by WHO namely 1:1000 taking into consideration, active practitioners out of registered practitioners are 80%.
