Hyperacusis is a hearing disorder that causes noise sensitivity with everyday sounds. People with Bell’s palsy often suffer from loudness hyperacusis due to paralysis of one of the small protective muscles. The most common cause of severe hyperacusis is an injury to the facial nerve, distal to the geniculate ganglion. It results in the failure of the mechanism that protects the inner ear from injury due to loud sounds.

Elevated oscillations lead to louder sound perception and eventually may lead to deafness. ##Disclaimer## The content provided on Docplexus is intended for educational purposes only.
