The impact of hypothermia on mortality upon intensive care unit (ICU) admission after stabilization efforts is not known. The occurrence of “indoor” hypothermia is found to be associated with worse outcome than “outdoor” hypothermia. So, it is of utmost importance to verify the hypothermia as a predictor of mortality in trauma patients admitted to the ICU. This article is the synopsis of a study that has evaluated the impact of hypothermia in trauma patients at admittance to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Introduction: Hypothermia in trauma patients is generally defined as a core temperature ≤35°C. The association with early mortality is thought to occur via deterioration of coagulation abilities. Between time of arrival on the ED and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission, stabilization efforts with trauma resuscitation, medication, coiling, and damage control surgery may all influence…
