Gallbladder diseases are highly prevalent in India. Studies have suggested that the North, East, Northeast, and Central India have higher prevalence of gallbladder disease as compared with other regions. The mean age of presentation of gallbladder cancer in India is lower than that in other countries. Lifestyle changes and environmental factors have resulted in a surge in the prevalence of risk factors such as obesity, infections, and genetics.
Therefore, there is an urgent need for developing treatment modalities and management strategies of these conditions.
