A 19-year-old male patient was diagnosed with multibacillary leprosy, for which he was taking multi drug treatment (MDT) including clofazimine, dapsone, and rifampicin for the last 8 months and was under regular follow-up. Clinical findings: Recently he presented with an abdominal pain which was described as periumbilical, intermittent, tended to occur during the night. Work up: Patient was then referred to surgical unit, where physical findings revealed few enlarged lymph nodes at the left cervical region and mild tenderness at the umbilical region without guarding or stiffness.
Laboratory findings: Abnormal laboratory findings included eosinophilia, hypoalbuminemia, and mild hyperglobulinemia. The serology test for HIV infection and syphilis were negative. Finally, physicians realized that the causative factor of unusual symptoms was a due an overdose of one of the drugs used in MDT.…
