The clinical presentation and etiopathogenesis of diabetes may vary significantly with heterogenicity. In a study conducted by Anjana et al., four clusters of diabetic patients were identified in the Indian population viz. severe insulin-deficient diabetes, insulin-resistant obese diabetes, combined insulin resistant and deficient diabetes, and mild age-related diabetes. It is crucial to identify these clusters for effective screening and treatment strategies.

Leveraging techniques like ambulatory glucose profiling and time-in-range can add to the accuracy of these strategies.
