The Indian Medical Association has framed a National committee, in order to ensure emotional health and well being of students and doctors in the country. Doctors are on the verge of becoming an endangered species of the society. It has been observed that, in the last few years, the stress of students and practicing doctors has taken a serious turn. Doctors are usually surrounded by diseases, distress, dangerous infections, demands from patients and death in their everyday schedule. This busy routine often drives them to depression, aggression, mental health challenges and even suicides.

According to WHO, suicide is now considered as a public health priority. Medical students and doctors have a higher suicide rate than the general population.
