The FDA reviewed recently published research papers describing the effect of high field strength magnets in mobile phones, smartwatches, and other consumer electronics on the routine functioning of implanted electronic medical devices like pacemakers and implantable defibrillators. Based on the review FDA validated and advised patients and customers of the relevant guidelines. The aim was to highlight the potential risks associated with these electronics so that health care practitioners and patients can understand the potential risks and follow appropriate measures for their safe use.
