The rising incidence of obesity in children and adolescents globally is a problem of serious concern in the society.This rapid rising trend in the childhood obesity especially during the past two decades has become a major public health problem and a risk factor for morbidity and mortality even later when the child reaches the adulthood. It gives rise to several serious health problems at a later stage. The problem has reached to epidemic proportions worldwide so fast that it may be called a "silent epidemic", as it is remaining dormant in the society without an uproar. It is estimated that worldwide, over 22 million children under the age of 5 years are obese and 1 in 10 children is overweight.
