The Health Ministry launched a 'test and treat policy for HIV' under which as soon as a person tests positive for the disease, he will be provided with anti-retroviral therapy (ART) irrespective of his CD count or clinical stage. This is a unique decision as till date even WHO provide free medicines to HIV patients if their CD count is less than 500, in the only advanced country people get such treatment as treat HIV as it is detected. The government is stating that AIDS will eventually be eliminated from the country as the centre today announced that it has planned to develop a national strategic plan over the next seven years.
