Infectious diseases, a significant burden on public health and national economy, are caused by microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites. Synonymously called communicable diseases as they can be spread, directly or indirectly, from person to person. In India, infectious and associated disease burden is estimated to be 14 – 43% of the total disease burden.
