Endophthalmitis is an inflammatory condition of the intraocular cavities usually caused by infection. In a study conducted by a major tertiary care center, the incidence of post-operative endophthalmitis was found to be 0.09%. the current article describes the standard treatment guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for Infective Endophthalmitis. Endophthalmitis is defined as a major intraocular inflammation resulting from infection of the vitreous cavity.

Exogenous endophthalmitis occurs when infective organisms enter the eye by direct inoculation, such as from intraocular surgery, intravitreal injections, penetrating trauma, or contiguous spread from adjacent tissues.
