Insulin is only treatment for Type 1 Diabetic and most often required for type 2 Diabetics too as not adequate treated by medicine or during surgery, trauma or pregnancy or malignancy. But Insulin has to be injected either subcutaneous daily 1-3 times by person himself or by iv in icu by a doctor. Many drugs like Insulin specially those made of proteins, cannot be taken orally because they are broken down in the gastrointestinal tract before they can take effect.
