All of you are aware of the Zika virus epidemic which started in Brazil, then spreading to other Latin American countries and now to Europe. We in India should not assume it will not affect us, but take all necessary precautions to prevent its spread to India. As the vector for this infection Aedes aegypti is abundant in our country and the whole population will be susceptible (this being new virus), once the virus enters India, it is difficult to control it's spread. In these days of international travel infections can spread from one country to another country across continents rapidly.
So we should create awareness regarding this infection esp. serious consequences like Microcephaly affecting babies born to infected mothers and Guillian Barre syndrome. Control measures should be initiated all levels -- personal, community and governmental.
