The ongoing Iran war is beginning to impact India’s medical devices industry, with manufacturers warning of a potential shortage of polypropylene (PP), a key thermoplastic polymer used in essential medical consumables such as syringes, IV bags, catheters, blood bags, and surgical drapes. Industry experts report that PP prices have increased sharply, rising by more than ₹55 per kg since December, with particularly steep hikes observed in March. Manufacturers note that plastic raw material prices have surged by nearly 25–35% in the last 10–12 days.
