Conventionally, athletes with a concussion are recommended complete rest. However, emerging evidence suggests that strict and prolonged physical and cognitive rest until symptom resolution may not be effective and that light physical activity (PA) can actually aid recovery in case of a mild concussion. A meta-analysis study evaluated the role of light PA, prescribed aerobic exercise treatment, rest, cognitive activity, and sleep in the early management of sports-related concussions .

The analysis revealed that PA and prescribed exercise improved recovery by a mean of โˆ’4.64 days. Both early return to light PA and reduced screen time in the initial 2 days after injury and prescribed aerobic exercise treatment between days 2โ€“14 safely facilitate recovery.
