To address the growing dissatisfaction of doctors on rural posting over leave policies under the Panchayati Raj Institutions, Jharkhand government has made some modification in the draft guideline of the leave rules to soften their stance on the same. In the revised rule, Medical Officers will get their leaves sanctioned by the civil surgeons instead of heads of Panchayat Samiti. Doctors were already up in arms against rural healthcare services to be brought under the purview of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI).
The new salary and leave system under the new policy has irked the medical fraternity to a huge extent. This discontentment fizzed out in the form of protest, rallies, and strikes in the different parts of the country.
