This is the letter I have written to MCI after it's recent order advising doctors to prescribe generic medicines. Sir, I have gone through the order and tried to implement it in its true spirit but I found the following problems- Many generics are available in branded form although their prices are low compared to the real branded ones. Shall I be held responsible if I prescribe those low priced branded generics after comparing their prices provided in CIMS because if I write only a composition (generic) it is very likely that the chemist might serve the patient a high cost branded medicine where this order of MCI will be ineffective?

What happens if the pharmacy serves a high cost branded medicine to the patient looking at my prescription which has generic drugs prescribed only? Is there any law or punishment for the chemists to desist doing this? Who is going to notify the stores…
