Indian diets are rich in carbohydrates, leading to higher post-prandial glucose (PPG) excursion. Therefore, the need for the therapeutic strategies that effectively controls PPG excursion is the need of the hour. 1 Evidence suggests that some diabetic patients, having ‘low-ratio’ premix insulin formulations on a daily basis, continue to have high postprandial blood glucose levels. Therefore, such patients require intensified insulin therapy where mid-ratio (50% protaminated intermediate-acting insulin and 50% rapid-acting - human or analog) or high-ratio (30% protaminated and 70% rapid-acting insulin) premix insulin could play a crucial role.
