Favorably affecting 2 parameters the lockdown reduced Infection rate   because of less and brief contact. Doubling time from 4 to almost 8 days. India has 0.7 beds for 1000 patients as compared to 3 in the USA and 3.4 in Italy.

If we weren't successful at reducing our doubling rates we could have easily swamped our poor health system. Lockdown-I gave our health system more breathing time to arrange for resources like masks, PPE, ventilators, quarantine facility installation, and medical personnel. There are only 50,000 ventilators available in India.
