NAVI MUMBAI: Five-year-old Ayush Mishra from Vashi was suffering from the Nystagmus syndrome or the 'dancing eye syndrome', since birth. The condition involves the involuntary movements of eyeballs. With a fading vision in his left eye, Ayush had difficulty in keeping his chin up at all times during school hours and was unable to see and read alphabets. This led to a strained neck due to his constant chin-up position. Ayush was not happy to be around people, as his classmates often made fun of his inability to see straight.

"Nystagmus is an easily noticeable but rarely recognized disorder," said paediatric ophthalmologist Dr Anand Kumar from Fortis Hospital, Vashi.
