Telangana state government has reportedly decided to charge 10 percent luxury tax on special rooms with TV and air-conditioning facilities in private hospitals with retrospective effect from June 2, 2014. Approximately 150 private hospitals in Telangana have been issued a notice by the commercial taxes department (CTD) to pay “luxury tax”. The hospitals are based in Nizamabad and Warangal, and the notices have been issued in the last two weeks. A luxury tax of 10% has been levied on the private hospitals that provide special rooms with TV and air-conditioning facilities to patients.
