Maharashtra has accepted the amended central government law regarding organ donation last week. The new amendments prohibit organ transplant to foreigner from an Indian citizen. New amended law also has various important inclusions which were advocated by the medical community. The State of Maharashtra has accepted the amendments of central government law of 2011. The new law has several inclusions and critical exclusions which will allow easier organ donation to relatives as well as guard patients’ rights.

The law was passed in state legislative assembly in its winter session at Nagpur, last week. The original organ donation law was framed in 1994 by central government. The law was then amended in 2011. The Government of Maharashtra accepted it in toto. Additionally, the state government has decided to incorporate some more changes suggested by medical fraternity to these amendments.…
