Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is a sign of advanced-stage malignancies encompassing both thoracic and extrathoracic regions and poor patient prognosis. It results in a feeling of heaviness and shortness of breath due to fluid collection in the pleura. The incidence of MPE is estimated to be more than 150,000 new cases yearly; most cases are caused due to breast cancer, lung cancer, and lymphoma. Other causes of MPE include cancer that may spread from the stomach, kidney, ovaries, and colon.
Keeping the quality of life and palliation is the primary focus of managing MPE. For more insights on MPE, join an exclusive session with eminent oncologist Dr. Madhuchanda Kar on 29 th June 2022, 6.00 PM IST onwards. Don’t miss the session!
