A patient visited psychiatrist following concern from his family, after the death of his mother. He has always been a loner, preferring to be by himself than with others. When his sister told him that his mother had died, he showed little emotion, and attended her funeral in jeans and a dirty T-shirt, much to the family’s disgust. He had always been quiet and compliant as a child, and seemed neither to seek nor to enjoy the company of other children. He currently lives alone and spends all of his time repairing electrical appliances.
