Amblyopia is a vision deficit in children when screened at an early age can be cost efficient and clinically effective. In such cases, optical treatment (glasses) may be sufficient to improve visual acuity. Whereas, treatment after the end of the 'critical period' can improve vision but sometimes it carries a low risk of double vision as well. The article discusses the need to screen the children during this critical period and various management options that can improve quality of life.

Amblyopia also called 'lazy eye' is one of the vision problems prominently observed in low-income countries.
