Much controversy was going on in 2013 regarding the role of manganese in basal ganglia disorder Parkinson's disease. Now green journal Neurology is discussing this issue and confirms the role of manganese in Welders causing Welder's PD which differs from the classic one as having high-stepping gait in place of short shuffling gait in typical PD.MRI brain shows T1 Hyperintensity of basal ganglia nuclei which are seen in hepatic encephalopathy too. This manganese deposition disappears once the exposure is stopped. In the light of this recent findings, it should be brought in awareness programs especially those involved in welding job across the Globe.

So people should be made aware of such a possibility because the symptom progression is directly dependent on dose and duration of exposure. Do you think manganese is behind Welder's Parkinson's?
