The MCI employees did not have happy start of new year as there is a big threat looming over-"if the MCI is dissolved, what about their jobs?" On the first day of the new year, 95 MCI employees wrote a letter to the PMO requesting that their jobs be protected if the NMC bill was passed. The MCI employees are worried over the 2 nd provision of Section 58 of the proposed bill, which says that once the new body to replace MCI came into effect, services of current employees would be terminated with "immediate effect", and they would be given three months of pay . The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 that seeks to replace the MCI, is presently in the Parliamentary standing committee owing to objection over various provisions in the bill.
