During Mop round or otherwise many private medical colleges admit students more in number than what assigned by MCI for both UG and PG seats. The Medical Council India (MCI) has decided to debar all such medical colleges from admitting students for a year. The decision in this regard has been taken by the MCI on the suggestions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), which has been initiated to bring transparency in the admission process in medical colleges.

According to a senior government official, all the medical colleges have to admit students as per their prescribed capacity of seats for undergraduate and post-graduate courses which is being fixed by the MCI after examining each medical college every year.
