A recent study by AIIMS has reported that wrong medical treatment is the commonest reason for patients to complain about medical negligence, followed by lack of care, no treatment and discharge on request. The allegations were found to be more common in cases of adolescent (50%) and the super-speciality hospitals are accused of negligence in 65% cases. With regard to this, doctors have considered lack of communication as the major cause of discontent among patients.
Doctors say that they should refrain themselves from making promises of complete recovery to the patients and should always explain the complications associated with the treatment procedure. What do you think is the major cause of medical negligence cases in India?
