There is an announcement recently by the Union Minister of Health that there is a planning to start 75 medical colleges through out India before 2022. It is a very good idea and planning. Quoting Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India ”The institutions are not made by brick and mortar but by men of integrity to serve the institutions”.
Hence at present there are lot of confusions regarding the qualifications of the medical teachers as well as paucity of medical teachers because of this confusion. There is an urgent need to have separate Medical Teachers regulatory board to frame rules regarding the basic qualifications, using private practitioners also to be teachers as was the case some thirty five years ago as honorary professors who did wonderful job at that time.
