Just like all other specialties, radiologists are also liable for claims of malpractice due to errors in diagnosis and interventional procedures. In today’s medical practice, radiologists have an increased involvement in the clinical management of patients and thus, such errors can cause significant damage to the patients. This article focuses on the medicolegal liabilities in radiology in the Indian context. A radiologist failed to diagnose a malignant pulmonary nodule which was visible on initial chest X-ray.
The cancer went untreated and the patient died due to widespread metastases five years later. The radiologist was held responsible for failure to detect malignancy in the X-ray.
